Boating should be fun, (if it's not you're doing it wrong!), but above all it should be safe, the following tips are designed to help you enjoy your day out & come home safely:

Volunteers only please, dragging the Mrs out for a days fishing when she'd rather be sunning herself in the garden is a recipe for a stressful day

If you're a novice, take an experienced boater with you for your first few trips, or better still take a course at one of the many RYA approved training centres

Check your boat, The RNLI will carry out a free annual safety check of your boat for you, contact your local lifeboat station for details. A lot of the heartache in boating is attached to the trailer or outboard , make sure these have been serviced & checked over too   Click here to go to RNLI site

Check the inshore forecast & tides before you go    Click here for Inshore Forecast   Click here for Free Tide Predictions

Let someone know when & where you are going & when you will return, either  your local marina office or a friend, if you're going to be late back, let them know. Why not register your details with the coastguard's safety identification scheme   Click here to go to Coastguard Site

Check your boat and safety equipment before you go, (see list at bottom of this page)

Don't be afraid to turn back or cancel your trip if conditions are deteriorating

Do practice your man overboard drills

  Have fun !!
